The Graston Technique® (GT) is a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization used to break down scar tissue. The main goals of treatment with GT are to decrease edema, pain, and to increase range of motion.

GT is a non-surgical technique to benefit the fascia and connective tissues present throughout the body. It helps break up scar tissue or muscle “knots,” which increases range of motion of joints, helps facilitate and quicken the healing process, increases the strength of muscle fibers, and reduces pain.

GT is successful due to its ability to interrupt the pain cycle and scar tissue formation. This leads to changes in soft tissue flexibility and range of motion. The Graston instruments help to amplify soft tissue restrictions. This is similar to how a stethoscope amplifies the sound of a heartbeat. GT instruments are the treatment tools I use to twist, turn and chisel away at the adhesion through the skin. I do this in order to induce controlled microtrauma to the area. By inducing microtrauma, I trigger an inflammatory process to promote healing and recovery to the area. GT also stimulates collagen regrowth and redistribution of collagen fibers in the correct pattern. This also optimizes range of motion, flexibility, and muscle recruitment.

GT works tremendously well and I highly recommend it.

I am a certified Graston© provider.
